Bigler Tips

When in doubt, run it out!

Many times younger ballplayers will stand at the plate after hitting a ball and wonder if it is fair or foul. Umpires will never "call" a fair ball but rather will point to fair territory to indicate that a ball is in fact fair. On a foul ball however, umpires will call "Foul!" and spread their arms to show that all play is stopped.

Main Purpose of Fall Ball

Please remember the purpose of our Fall Ball Leagues. We want to let ALL participating kids have an opportunity to play baseball and have FUN doing it. This league is NOT about how many games you won or lost - it's about learning the game by playing it. All coaches should let their ball players try different positions and different plays. There are no trophies or first place honors banquets - just the fun of being a kid and playing a game you love. Of course, you also teach ball players to play hard - to try their best - and then see who's scored more runs at the end. Always be a positive example to your team - because they’re always watching and listening.

Coaches and parents should ask themselves this; "Are these ball players playing for me - or for themselves and the fun of playing?"

In these leagues, we want it to be the latter.

Keeping Score

All teams should keep their own team book and the "Home" team (team listed second on the schedule) should get the score to the Bigler Site Coordinator. If teams want their standings listed, we need the game scores.

At the end of last year we sent out a questionnaire asking if people wanted scores and standings kept and shown on the website. Believe it or not, we had roughly a 50 - 50 split! So this year we are going to post scores and standings again with this thought: because there is no "first" place for any of the leagues, view the scores and standings only if you want to. It's up to you...

Keeping Your Area Clean

Coaches, please do your best to have your players keep their area(s) clean! All the municipalities whose facilities we are using have stressed to us that we are responsible for the cleanliness of the field, park, bleachers, dugouts and surrounding areas. A good rule of thumb is this; "Leave the place cleaner than when you got there."

What happens this year definitely affects what fields/parks we get next year.
